Student Portal:
Your students need to log in to the student portal to retrieve the test.
Online Test Device/Browser Requirements:
• A computer (Windows OS, Mac OS, or Chrome OS)
• An up-to-date version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox,
or Safari
• High-speed internet access
The best way to ensure your student's device works for
the online test is to ask your students to submit
the sample test prior to
the contest.
Online Test Format:
-
Length: Students will be given 50
minutes to solve 20 problems. The
system will give students a 10-minute-remaining warning message and a
5-minute-remaining warning message. The test will be submitted when time runs out or
when the student clicks the Submit button.
-
-
Answer formats:
For free response answers,
only enter numbers (2, 6.5, 100, -78.2) as answers.
-
Prior to the Testing
-
Turn Off the 'Team Online Testing Flag':
To ensure that your students do not begin the online test before it is time to administer the contest, it is recommended that you turn off the
'Team Online Testing Flag' until you are ready. The flag can be found on the main page of the team leader portal.
Send Parent Letter Home:
It is important
to have parents' support for the contest. Their encouragement and
recognition will help students enjoy the contest more and send
the message 'It is COOL to be good at math!' to students.
Sample Parent
Letter and Name Release Permission Form
Collect Parent Permission Slip:
We will need a parent permission to publish student names and scores on our website. We don't need you to return the permission slip, but please collect them and keep them on file.
Create Your Team Roster:
All participant
names must be submitted on the Team Leader portal before the Roster Deadline. To add
student names to your team: log on to your account and then add your student
names in the 'Enter Student Names Here:' section. Once you enter a student's name, the student's online login
(username/password) will be generated.
Check the 'Do Not Publish Name' flag only if you (or
the student's parents) do not want the student's
name (first name, last name initial) to be published on
our winner's board.
The roster deadline: 2024-11-08 23:59:59.0
Distribute Student Login
and Student Portal Link:
Once you enter a student's name, his/her
online login (username/password) will be generated. Distribute the logins
and the student portal link (https://www.noetic-learning.com/mathcontest/student_login.jsp)
to your students.
Prepare for the Contest:
The NLMC
problems are non-routine math problems that call for creativity,
originality, and thinking skills. To help your students become familiar
with the types of problems, please host a
practice session prior to the contest and let your students work out
past contest problems.
As a team leader, you are given two sets of past tests for students to
practice. After you log into the Team Leader portal, click on 'Practice
Problems.'
If you don't have time for a practice
session during class, advise students to study and
practice at home.
Try the Online Sample Test:
One of the past tests is available online as the online sample. The best way to ensure your student's device works for the online test is to ask your students to
log into
the student portal and submit the online sample before the actual
test. Note: The online sample will be taken down from the student portal once the
testing period starts.
Please make sure:
• Each student take the online
sample test before the testing period starts.
• Each student uses the same device
he/she plans to use on the testing day.
• Each student has no problems opening
and submitting the practice test.
-
Proctoring the Test
-
-
Turn on the 'Team Online Testing Flag':
Make sure the 'Team Online Testing Flag' is on so that
your students can start the online test. The flag can be found on the
main page of the team leader portal.
-
Proctoring Guidelines:
All students taking the online test must be proctored in person. All participating students on your team must take
the contest at the same time. You may administer the contest anytime you
choose during the testing window:
2024-11-14 08:00:00.0 - 2024-11-27 17:00:00.0
Students will be given 50 minutes to
work on the problems. The system will give students a
10-minute-remaining warning message and a 5-minute-remaining warning
message. The test will be submitted when time runs out or when the
student clicks the Submit button.
What each student needs:
• Each student has their desired computer and high-speed internet access.
• Each student has the student portal link, username, and
password to log in.
• Each student has scratch paper and pencils.
Proctors need to make sure:
• Students should NOT use calculators, smart phones, or internet resources. • Students should work independently. They should NOT communicate
with anyone in any way.
• Proctors should NOT answer any questions about the content of the
test.
-
What-if Scenarios
-
A student accidentally logs off/exits the browser – The student should immediately log back on. The student's test will be saved. However, the system timer won't stop running.
A student encounters hardware/software/internet problems –
The student should immediately log back on using a different computer. The student test will be saved. However, the system timer won't stop running.
A student accidentally starts the test - If a student accidentally clicks the 'start' button on the student portal,
the system doesn't start the test right away. Instead, the system takes the student to a 'staging' area for 30 seconds before the
actual test starts. So, if a student accidentally clicks the start button, the student still has 30 seconds to change his/her mind. Once the test starts, the student should complete the test within the 50-minute window.
There is no re-take allowed in any scenario!
-
After the Testing
-
View Student Scores:
There
is no need to collect contest paper, grade paper, or enter the scores.
Once a student submits the online test, the score will automatically
show on your team leader board!
